Blue Jays top bats on 8 game road trip. Loperfido .500(12/24), Straw .417(5/12), Springer .409 (9/22), Vlad .406(13/32), Bichette .405(15/37).
It's hard to believe or is it? The is the first time since 2013 and 2014 (Peyton Manning and John Fox) The Broncos have a returning Head Coach and QB. Gary Kubiak was Denver's bench boss in 2015 on the way to Super Bowl 50. Since then they've used 13 different QB's (including Nix). And 6 different Head Coaches.
July 17, 1989 at the Skydome in Toronto. A rare Monday double header. Jays took both ends of it from the Angels 6-4 and 5-4. David Wells won both games and Tom Henke saved both. Jim Abbott went the distance for the halo's in the opener. Todd Stottlemyre started for Toronto. In the night cap. Fred McGriff hit a three run homer off Angels starter Dan Petry in the bottom of the 1st.. After Jays starter Steve Cummings gave up a two spot in the top of the inning.
Very sad news about Jim Clancy. An original Blue Jay (77-88). 128-140 with Toronto. Sept 28/82 he had a perfect game into the 9th inning. Gave up a lead off hit. Clancy outdueled Frank Viola that day. 3-0. Both complete games. @JesseBarfield29 Willie Upshaw and yes, Garth Iorg with solo home runs. RIP Mr. Clancy.

If Scherzer beats the A's tonight. They will be the 24th team he's won at least 5 times against. And this would be the 32nd different ballpark he has won at.
Pitchers batting. In 1998 Greg Maddux (18-9) hit .240, opponents hit .220 off him. 1917 Babe Ruth (24-13) hit .325, opponents hit .210 off him. 2023 Ohtani (10-5) hit .304, opponents were .184 off him.
Big Canada Day for George Springer. He had two home runs, including a grand slam. He became the 13th player in Blue Jays franchise history to have 7 or more RBI in a game. It happened last four years ago when Gurriel Jr and Vladdy Jr both had 7 in a game in 2021. Josh Phelps is the only other Toronto batter to do it in July (7/7/2004)
NYI at #1 for the fifth time in franchise history and first since 2009. NYI made dman Matthew Schaefer (Erie Otters) the first pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. Schaefer became the first OHL player to go at the top of the NHL Draft since Connor McDavid in 2015 (Erie) and the first OHL dman to be picked at No. 1 in more than a 10 years. Aaron Ekblad (2014) the last before yesterday.
11 of the 32 first round picks on Friday have been traded. However that might change to 10. Rangers are at 12 and have the option of moving pick this year or in 2026 to VAN, and Canucks have dealt that pick to the Penguins. Clear as mud.
Florida Panthers becoming the 10th franchise in NHL history to repeat as Cup champions.
Joining Lightning, Penguins, Red Wings, Oilers, Islanders, Habs, Leafs, Flyers, Senators (original)
The 11th Stanley Cup Final rematch in League history and first won by the same team since the Habs over the Bruins in 1977 and 1978.
Sit down or prepare to be knocked upon your buttocks. For this factoid. EDM became the second road team in SCF history to triumph after trailing by 3 or more goals. Joining the Habs 106 years ago (Game 5 of 1919 SCF). Sooooo been awhile.
Oilers were shorthanded 11 times in game 3. That's the most in a playoff game in 12 years. And the most in the expansion era (67-68) in a SCF. The most PP's a team had in a game in the 2024-25 regular season, was 9. That happened twice, Senators on the benefit of that both times.
McDavid has 148 career playoff points in 92 post-season games. He can become the third fastest to 150 career points. Behind 99 (68GP) and 66 (86GP).
Connor McDavid reminds me a lot of myself. If he was dominating an over 35, Friday night Beer League. Like me (different leagues), McD became the fourth player in NHL history to record four straight 20 point postseasons as he helped Oilers to even its series and and send Edmonton back home, with a wee bit of confidence.
Florida became the seventh defending Stanley Cup champion in the NHL’s expansion era (since 67-68) to win a best of seven playoff round after facing a 2-0 series deficit, the previous half dozen were, Tampa (2022 CF), Chicago (2014 R1), Kings (2013 CQF), Pittsburgh (1992 DSF), Habs (1987 DF) and Islanders (1984 CF).
